Progression of a Priory (2011) is a piece for acapella choir that represents the succession of voice throughout history. The setting is a priory (a small monastery that does not house an abbot).
Encapsulated in time, the monks and nuns walk about the courtyard one rainy day, early before the six o’clock Mass. A slow chant erupts as they walk into the church, then slowly morphs into a polyphonic Latin choir. Once the group has entered the church a selection from the Kyrie is sung that morphs from Latin text to English. The piece is capped with the same chant as in the beginning, as if the whole piece were lost in time.
